James was born in Montreal, Canada in 1979. He received his BA at Concordia University in Communications before going on to study Photography at Dawson College in 2010. Since then he divides his time between personal projects and commercial assignments and is a contributor to various publications including The Guardian, Lensculture, Alula Mag, Broad Magazine, and The Lonka Project.

In James’ most recent project, a photo book published by Sternthal books, he used his visual archive as ‘raw footage’, pieced together in order to recount and process a concussion he suffered, and which had a profound impact on his life.

James' images have been exhibited internationally, and have been included in group exhibitions in Berlin, Paris, and New York City. In addition to his latest project, he is also working on a photographic archive about housing in his hometown of Montreal Quebec, where he lives and works.

Select commercial clients include Cirque du Soleil, Saje, Agence Tux, Ardene, Penn, French Kiwi, Gabriel Scott, and Frank and Oak.

James is also an editorial contributor to The Guardian, New York Times Style, Les Editions Alto, Broad Magazine, Alula Magazine and other international publications.

James was picked as winner of The Critic’s Choice awards on Lensculture.
